Adetokunbo Ogundeyin is a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Lagos a and his company builds armoured and bullet proof vehicles.
His company, Proforce is located in the rural town of Ogunremo in Ogun State. In his story, Adetokunbo Ogundeyin tells how a company rejected his offer of partnership and how all the staff eventually left to work for him in Nigeria.
Proforce among other products, produces MRAPs (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected). He calls his, Ara meaning Thunder in Yoruba.
“I was in my company in Kuwait, we actually had under the name Ola King Group. I was just in my office when the gentleman came in and asked me whether we could be selling armoured vehicles in Nigeria.”
“And I felt no as we would not sell our vehicles. I went to look at their plant in Kuwait. I saw the armoured Land Cruisers they were producing during the Gulf War. I tried to talk them on partnership in Nigeria.”
They were Colombians. They disappointed us and eventually the company folded up within 3 months. And every single staff of theirs I brought to Nigeria and we started off.”
“Majority of these MRAPs that you see out there have overheating issues. Majority of them don’t have wrong flat tires. They don’t have the things that will make our own men comfortable.”
So that is why sometimes you see them abandoning some of the MRAPs. But with our own MRAP, that doesn’t happen. This ones that we have here are going to be delivered to Nigeria. I can assure you that our MRAPs have been battle tested in the North East.”
“They have been fired times without number. They have been able to withstand the test of time. And of course when it comes to maintenance, the good thing about Nigeria Army, I must tell you under General Buratai, is that as they are ordering for the MRAPs, they are ordering for the spare parts. That will go a long way with the fiber which is excellent.”
“As of now, we produce the vehicles for Republic of Chad, which is excellent. Most of the things you see here are going to Republic of Chad. For them to have even looked and approved that Proforce should be the company to build their vehicles, we must know that they know that they know what they are doing , number one. Number two, they have concluded and they are confident that Ara is the best of all MRAPs in this environment.”
“We have been building defence vehicles for quite some time and we have diversified into other areas of defence. We are delivering world class products, delivering products that stand the test of time.”
“Because we believe we have what it takes to conquer the market and we will conquer the market, not only the African market but the world.”
“All what we are trying to do is to just put together the military industrial complex that Mr. President has always been talking about.”
